A study says that the world is seeing more rain overall, but it's also getting drier. The confounding findings reveal a big problem.
A Dartmouth study shows that annual rainfall in much of the world has consolidated over the past four decades into heavier storms with longer dry periods in between.
We sure do need rain. A whopping 0.1 inch of rain is expected to fall later Thursday. A fire weather watch is posted for much of Minnesota on Friday because of gusty winds, low humidity and highs well into the 80s. Saturday will be the sunnier day of the weekend. A bigger storm could drop 1-3 inches of rain Sunday into Tuesday. Yes!

The weather on Wednesday will be a mix of sunshine and clouds with the potential for a shower in New York City. In the evening, rain becomes more widespread.
Friday will be a fairly sunny and warm day as high temperatures rise to the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s. Winds should be a little lighter across the area. Late in the day, there will be a small chance of isolated thunderstorms, mainly southeast of the Tri-Cities. There is a very low-end chance of severe storms.
