Despite the Aspen Acres Fire coming within 200 yards of Bishop Castle on July 3, the castle was still standing on July 4.

The Aspen Acres Fire continues to spread across Southern Colorado, forcing evacuations and threatening the area surrounding Bishop Castle.

Colorado’s largest active wildfire consumed more than 8,000 acres overnight as hundreds more firefighters arrived in Pueblo and Custer counties to try to slow the fire’s spread.

The Aspen Acres Fire was within 200 yards of the beloved Bishop Castle Friday afternoon as crews worked to save the Custer County landmark.

The popular tourist attraction remains close during the fire and as the owner recovers from an unrelated fall.
